Switzer
Learning
Center
is a nonpublic school
approved by the California Department of Education
(CDE).
Our curriculum and teaching materials follow
CDE guidelines; however we supplement the basic core
curriculum with a specialized reading program,
enrichment classes, extracurricular activities and
vocational training.
Additionally, each class receives weekly
computerized instruction to assist them in
integrating their class work while developing
computer skills.
Each student’s program is tailored to their
individual needs, taking into consideration their
unique learning challenges.
We emphasize language, reading, problem
solving, appropriate social behavior as well as the
core academic skills.
Visual and auditory training, sensory-motor
training and social skill development are integral
parts of the program.
The classrooms are divided based on student age,
learning style and skill level.
With the high school classes switching
classrooms for different subjects, each student
works with multiple faculty members.
Therefore, our program utilizes a team
approach, bringing each team member together weekly
to discuss the students progress in academic,
behavioral, social and emotional development.
Switzer has two regular school schedules.
Students in grades 3 through 8 are on
Schedule A: 7:45 A.M. to
2:04 P.M. while
high school students are divided between Schedules A
and Schedule
B: 8:47
A.M. to 3:08 P.M.
In addition to the academic curriculum,
Switzer
Center uses a school-wide
behavioral program that utilizes a point system
(link to point and level system) where students can
earn points to gain greater levels of privilege.
Points can be earned or lost for behavior,
completion of work, compliance with the rules etc.
and an accumulation of ___ points will raise them up
a level.
Students on level 4, the highest level, are treated
to school parties, time in the school clubhouse, and
special off campus activities.
An attendance incentive program has also been
instituted to reward students for regular school
attendance.
